Central Indiana braces for severe storms tonight
INDIANAPOLIS — Central Indiana is preparing for severe weather this evening, with an enhanced risk of severe thunderstorms from 7 p.m. to 2 a.m., according to the National Weather Service Storm Prediction Center.
Hazards expected include damaging winds, isolated tornadoes, lightning and localized flooding.
The city said residents can sign up for up-to-date emergency weather alerts by texting MESAINDY to 67283 to receive alerts from Marion County Emergency Management.
If a roadway is impassable due to a downed tree limb, residents can report it by calling the Mayor's Action Center at 317-327-4622 and selecting Option 2 to reach Indy DPW dispatch after hours.
Downed power lines should be reported to AES at 317-261-8111. Never touch or walk near downed power lines, as they can remain active.
A severe weather safety checklist is available at weather.gov/ama/severesafety to help you prepare.
